Marco Island, FL., (October 26, 2005);  Hurricane Wilma threatened South Florida this week, sweeping through Marco Island and across the state to the East Coast.  Marco Island Watersports was fortunate to have experienced only minor damage from the onslaught of Wilma.  The category three storm which arrived on Marco Island Monday damaged our beach hut locations, however, we were lucky to have avoided any harm to our watersports equipment.

Located at the Marco Island Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa, and the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort, we offer shelling excursions aboard the Calusa Spirit, guided Waverunner Tours through the Ten Thousand Islands, Parasailing, and small watercraft rentals to visitors and residents.

Hurricane Wilma made landfall in the vicinity of Cape Romano, a large remote barrier island which is also the destination for our shelling tours – since the storm has passed, there will be even more opportunities for guests to discover incredible shells on the island.  Lightning Whelk, Florida Fighting Conch, True Tulip, Florida Spiny Jewelbox, and Atlantic Figsnail are just a few of the plentiful and exotic shells which reside on Cape Romano’s sandy shores.

Our guided Waverunner Tours explore the Ten Thousand Islands - the mangrove forests that act as a gateway to the Everglades.  Visitors can now witness the effects Wilma had on this subtropical ecosystem and observe the many rare and unique animals and marinelife that survived this natural phenomenon.
